Abstract
Devedesetih godina prošlog stoljeća, u doba kad se mladi Dugan po prirođenoj sklonosti sve više interesira za muziku i naglo razvija umjetničke sposobnosti, nalazi se naš glazbeni život - nakon poilirske dobe - u periodu kojim potpuno dominira ličnost Ivana Zajca. Da se uoči muzičko stanje tog perioda na koncu XIX. i početku XX. stoljeća, potrebno je u kratkim crtama se osvrnuti na glavne momente muzičkog razvoja u Hrvatskoj još od 1850. i dotaknuti se djelovanja pojedinih ustanova, udruženja i radnika na polju opere, koncertne djelatnosti, a s obzirom na ličnost Dugana i na polju duhovne muzike.
