Abstract

Joseph Maurice Ravel (1875.-1937.) bio je francuski skladatelj, pijanist i dirigent. Školovao se na Pariškom konzervatoriju u dugom razdoblju od četrnaest godina poradi problema sa direktorima te institucije. Dva puta izbačen, ali objeručke primljen od strane svoga mentora Gabriela Fauréa natrag, nastavlja svoj skladateljski put koji je, dokazan i skandalom „Prix de Rome“, bio sve samo ne jednostavan. Ipak, Ravel je proglašen najznačajnijim živućim francuskim skladateljem od 1918., godine smrti C. Debussya. „Le Tombeau de Couperin“ djelo je nastalo u doba prvog svjetskog rata te nakon smrti Ravelove majke. Ova francuska suita veliča tradiciju francuske barokne glazbe, a svaki je stavak posvećen jednom od Ravelovih prijatelja koji su poginuli u prvom svjetskom ratu. Time je Ravel dao jasan doprinos retrospektivizmu francuske glazbe koji se pojavio u ranim godinama 20. stoljeća kao reakcija na nezdravu ratnu atmosferu.

Abstract (english)

Joseph Maurice Ravel (1875.-1937.) was a french composer, pianist and conductor. He studied at Paris Conservatoire during the long period of fourteen years for the problems with the directors of that institution. Ravel was two times released, but eagerly accepted back from his most important teacher, Gabriel Fauré. Ravel continues his way as a composer which was, to consider also „Prix de Rome“, everything but easy. However, Ravel has been declared the most significant living french composer from 1918., death of C. Debussy. „Le Tombeau de Couperin“ is a piece created during the World war I. and in the years after his mothers death. This suite magnifies the tradition of french baroque music, but each movement is dedicated to one of Ravels friends who died in the World war I. Thereby Ravel contributed to retrospectivism of french music which appeared in the early ages of 20th century as a reaction on damaging wartime atmosphere.
