Abstract

Ovaj rad sastoji se od povijesnog pregleda razvoja timpana kao člana orkestra do njegove uloge i tretmana kao solističkog instrumenta. Proučavanjem pojave i razvoja dionica za solo timpane proći ću kroz brojne inovacije u vještini sviranja instrumenta, pisanja za timpane te navesti ključna djela koja su transformirala poimanje timpana i njihove funkcije u suvremenoj glazbi. Uz povijesni pregled, kroz osobni pristup u analizama triju djela s kojima sam se susreo tijekom studija, pobliže ću se pozabaviti zahtjevima solo djela za timpane u kontekstu tehničkih izazova, shvaćanja ritma, istraživanja zvukovnih mogućnosti instrumenta i odnosa timpana i zvukovne pratnje.

Abstract (english)

This paper consists of a historical overview of the development of the timpani as a member of the orchestra to its role and treatment as a solo instrument. By studying the emergence and development of sections for solo timpani, I will go through numerous innovations regarding the skills of playing the instrument, writing for timpani and listing the key works that have transformed the view of timpani and their function in contemporary music. In addition to the historical overview, through a personal approach to the analysis of three works I encountered during my studies, I will take a closer look at the requirements of solo works in the context of technical challenges, rhythm comprehension, exploration of timbre and sound possibilities of the timpani, and their relationship with the sound accompaniment.
