Abstract
Život hrvatskog muzičkog kazališta na početku XX. stoljeća obilježen je djelovanjem Ivana Zajca, koji je snagom svoje ličnosti udario pečat jednom cijelom periodu u povijesti hrvatske muzike. Iako su muzičari tog perioda, nazvanog Zajčevim dobom, izvršili zamašnu zadaću u nacionalnom i organizatorskom pogledu, prijetila je velika opasnost da se sva naša kompozitorska produkcija ne izrodi u dilentantizam. U tom se momentu pojavljuje premijerno opera Oganj Blagoja Berse, koja je po svojoj općoj koncepciji, načinu izradbe i nadasve instrumentaciji bila na visini suvremenog opernog stvaranja.
